Today I’m sharing some of the most helpful and encouraging books for homeschool moms. These books will inspire and help guide you in your homeschool journey.
When I was a brand new homeschooling mom, I had no idea what a homeschool should look like. My only knowledge of school was of my own time in a classroom behind a desk. I needed guidance and ideas from others who had taken this path already.
So often our focus as homeschool moms is choosing the best curriculum for our kids. While it isn’t a bad thing to spend our efforts on choosing a good curriculum, I believe we moms also need guidance on how to homeschool. We need inspiration to keep growing and encouragement to keep going! A good book can help inspire us, uplift us, and offer new perspectives so that we can achieve our goals.

If I had to choose one author to recommend to other homeschool moms, it would be Sally Clarkson. She is the author of numerous books that offer women perspective, advice, and encouragement in all things motherhood and homeschooling. In her book Awaking Wonder: Opening Your Child’s Heart to the Beauty of Learning

The Busy Homeschool Mom’s Guide to Daylight: Managing Your Days Through the Homeschool Years by Heidi St. John was one of the first books I ever read on homeschooling. This book is full of practical advice on how to manage and organize your days. It also includes charts and actual sample homeschool schedules from multiple moms. It shows you what a homeschool day can look like.

Another author I have found helpful in my own homeschool journey is Sarah Mackenzie. A friend of mine lent me her book Teaching from Rest: A Homeschooler’s Guide to Unshakable Peace when my kids were young elementary age. I love this book because it is a short and easy read, but packed full of practical advice and ideas.
A second book by Sarah Mackenzie that has been helpful is The Read-Aloud Family: Making Meaningful and Lasting Connections with Your Kids. This book is filled with ideas on how to build connections with our kids by reading books together. It also includes book lists for ideas on what to read for various ages and stages.

A common thread throughout many of these books for homeschool moms is focusing on relationships with our children. There are so many good curriculums and opportunities for homeschoolers today-from music lessons, to sports, to co-ops. At the end of the day, when our homeschool journey with each child is finished, what will really matter is the relationships and memories we built with our kids and the ways we pointed them to the Lord.
